Making Money With Your Embroidery Machine

Time for a Fireside Chat!

Have you ever thought about turning your love for machine embroidery into a money making venture?

In my last LIVE show appearance of 2025, (in my front room with a real fire crackling behind me), I had the opportunity to be a guest on the StitchIt LIVE TV show with Blaine Austin. Blaine asked me to share some ideas that may very well get your wheels turning.

A bit about Blaine . . . Blaine and I have worked together in a variety of venues both in-person and virtual for quite a few years. He is now in a new position as VP of Sales and Strategy at StitchIt International.

This company is known for quality customer service distributing commercial embroidery equipment to serve those involved in the "business" of embroidery.

Blaine is expanding the line-up of products to serve the home based embroidery enthusiast and plans to do what he's well known for . . . bringing BIG things to the sewing world as he moves forward with regular live shows. The future is sure to be filled with information and inspiration for those who love stitching in this modern age of technology!

You can watch the debut of this this new show below, and hear some of my own embroidery biz ideas:
P.S. If you watch the entire show you'll hear from Angela Wolf and you'll also see the fun and fabulous CRAZY SEWING LADY embroidery design created and sold by Dawn Chace on her Creative Appliques site HERE.

So, I thought it would be fun to talk about embroidering for dollars for a few more minutes, then provide some links to resources for those who want to get started.

Over the years I've seen everything from stay at home moms working on a single needle embroidery only 4-inch hoop machine to those who owned 6 and 10 needle single head machines, multiple multi-needle machines, and even full fledged store fronts serving the needs of individual customers and companies with boxes full of orders for all manner of items customized with logos.

This variety just goes to show you that embroidery as a business can be big or small. No, I am not an expert in business but I do love to see the possibilities that exist and share ideas and information that may inspire you. There are so many avenues and roads you can travel as an embroidery entrepreneur !!!

I scouted out some resources for you. Check out the links below:

Master digitizer John Deer from Embroidery Legacy, is certainly an expert in the business of embroidery. His family produced award winning embroidery products dating back to the fifties. You can read his embroidery business tips when you CLICK HERE.

Another source I found is from a well known developer of machine embroidery software, called Hatch by Wilcom. Wilcom may not be a household name, but they have been the "maker behind the scenes" of many software programs used by home embroidery enthusiasts. CLICK HERE to see what they have to say about starting an embroidery business from home.

Are you now or have you in the past embroidered for dollars? Whether it's been big business or small business for you, I'd love to hear about your experience in the comments!

I would love to try this and make some extra cash. I am not able to work a public job because of cancer. I could do this in between doctor's visits.

I participate in a couple of local holiday craft fairs each year just to earn extra gift dollars and to help pay for my retirement hobby. Table fees help finance local community needs so I feel a sense of contributing in my small way. My embroidered items, especially ITH projects, are always big sellers.
