The show title for this week is Vacation Indulgences. Now let’s give that title a more distinct definition. Vacations and vacation days can certainly mean lots of different things to different people. For me personally, staying in my robe, PJ’s, and soft slippers for a whole day (feeling healthy that is) would be a great vacation day! I only need to add cat on the lap, a good non-fiction book, sewing magazine, or tablet streaming some you tube sewing videos, and I’ve got it “made in the shade” even if I’m only on the couch!!! I could name six other scenarios, some would be outdoor adventures close to home and others would be sightseeing and visiting with friends in more distant places. Since we have already loosely defined Vacation, lets get into the heart of what you’ll see this week when you watch show #1302. First, Kay Whitt from Sewserendipity.com will delight you with soft, flowing, and simply beautiful dresses and sundresses. She has such a knack for mixing prints in just the right proportions. Yes, they are from fabric collections designed to coordinate but she masterfully mixes them with just the right amount of pattern play. If you prefer to stay away from zipper sewing you’ll love the styles she shows here. In this show Kay shares so many tips to give these dresses the fit you need and the style you crave. The dresses are cotton, cotton voile, and rayon, which is my personal favorite for a flowing feeling and a little bit of a luxurious look. Rayons are so much better than there were 20 some years ago. Their color-fast quality is much more dependable and the variety of prints range from colorful brights to deep tones in darker prints, plus lots of batiks. You're really going to enjoy this segment and pick up some great tips. Next up is yours truly with a spa style robe made from super soft waffle weave cotton. The video below is a super short preview. This is the robe I prefer to wear for my "vacation day" described at the beginning of this post. The fabric is sooo comfortable to wear and feels just like the very best spa robe. This 10 oz. Turkish Waffle weave fabric is 100% cotton and 58/60 inches wide. It comes from Shannon Fabrics, makers of many soothingly soft fabrics. The featured technique in this segment is what I like to call shell tuck trim. For many years I've frequently used the shell tuck stitch for hems & finishing edges. You can CLICK HERE to see how I used it to hem lingerie. On this show I created shell tuck trim to use as a substitute for piping along pocket tops, sleeve cuffs, and the banded trim. Don't forget to visit the website. You’ll find detailed photos with step-by-step instructions for creating the trim. Would you like to see project instructions for a men's style Spa robe? CLICK HERE to visit the Brothersews blog and you'll see an entirely different trim technique I developed. This one has a classic look that's ideal for a masculine garment. There are a few other another spa themed projects I created to coordinate with the robe. There is a link to the instructions for these in the show file. CLICK HERE to go directly to the page with all the info. Combined with the robe or made on their own they add up to a great gift for someone who deserves a little pampering. . . That someone could be you! This wraps up a preview of Vacation Indulgences. I’m sure your own vacation wish list would be inspiring and interesting to all! Feel free to leave a comment and share your favorite near or far vacation scenario!
