The online version of It’s Sew Easy TV started a fresh new series! Each week for the next thirteen weeks you can watch one full Free show. I’ll give you a preview of every show each week but let me start off today with a brief overview of the series.
Picture
The theme is Go Anywhere and Everywhere. In summary, each of these shows will help you sew, embroider, and embellish stylish garments and accessories that take you from day to evening whether you’re heading off to a far away destination, or getting ready for day to day excursions close to home.
Picture
Designer Angela Wolf starts off the show by sewing a versatile knit skirt that's ideal for travel but absolutely perfect for an every day garment too. Mix, match and accessorize this skirt with your favorite knit tops for instant outfits that are comfortable and good looking!

Aside from her
famous jeans Angela is known to wear a wide variety of garments made from her line of patterns designed especially for knits. In fact just this week Angela announced her new online class titled Essential Guide to Sewing Knit Tops.

Picture
In this segment of It's Sew Easy TV she walks you through designing and sewing a classic knit skirt that's ideal for traveling or any "regular" day of the week.

Her Expert advice for The Perfect Travel Skirt includes:
  • Points for sewing ponte knit. Note: You'll find ponte knit in various weights. Quality can vary. I've had success with the ponte knit Classics Line from Joann Fabrics. I've also purchased ponte from Fabric.com. Order swatches to determine quality and colors for your own particular use.

  • A Pattern hack to go from pencil skirt to a new style with just the right amount of flare.
  • How to delete the dart for easy sewing and a new pattern variation.

  • Stitching the world's easiest zipper with the concealed or hidden zipper foot.
If you have previewed some of my own recent projects you know that this zipper style is one I reach for again and again. Learn how to install an invisible zipper and you will be amazed at how easy it really is. My preferred method is to find the foot that's made for your machine and use it each and every time for flawless results. Check with your local sewing machine shop to find the right one for your model machine.

Sewing a swing dress from silk velvet is next!

Picture
She starts with pattern recommendations and re-styling of a basic shift style dress.

  • Sewing tips for working with silk velvet.
  • See why the swing dress silhouette is so versatile and flattering.
  • Swing dress pattern recommendations.
  • Ditch the dart and add more flare with one easy pattern alteration.
  • Secrets to success with he layout and pattern cutting for silk velvet.
  • Styling ideas to transition different seasons.

Watch Deepika use the Brother Innov-is NQ550PRW Sewing Machine from their affordable professional line. This machine has just been updated to the new Innov-ís NQ575PRW. I have had personal experience using this machine and I can tell you it is a real workhorse. It has just the right amount of stitches and built-in options to make it worthy of a hardworking, yet easy to use machine. You can sew all manner of fabrics from the sheerest silks to hefty denims on this sleek, yet heavy duty model.

Saturday, Sept.23,2017 you showed how to desigjn decorative stitches
down both left & right opening sides of a very loosely fitted top, almost a cape. Next to the displayed sample was a plain one & I couldn't catch the name of it. I hope you can tell me the name of that coat, also used as a blanket when traveling.

Hi Connie, all of the "wrap" garments you saw were based on projects from my book titled Wrapped in Embroidery. I created a free pattern download to coordinate with the plain wrap you saw on show #1311. It's on the letsgosew.com website under free tips sheets and projects. You can copy and paste this address into your web browser to find it:
http://www.letsgosew.com/new-free-fleece-ruana-pattern-as-seen-on-pbs-its-sew-easy-tv.html

You''ll also find project instructions that coordinate with show 1311 on the It's Sew Easy TV website. Here is that address for you: http://itsseweasytv.com/projects/series_1300/1311/Itsseweasy_1311-1.htm

Click on the contact tab if you need any more help. Thanks for writing!

Question about the foot the lady used for the swing dress. When she sewed the lining in did she use the walking foot also or the regular foot

Joanne Banko link

Hi Renee, I'm not sure what Deepika did as the lining is not shown in this show. However, I would say yes, absolutely use the walking foot to sew the lining not a velvet dress like this one. I have made silk garments with lining and the walking foot can be your best friend in this situation. If you were using standard fabric it would be fine to use a regular foot.

Now you have me thinking about doing a future tutorial showing how to add lining in a garment with a style similar to this. I have made tank tops from lace and added a lining to make the finished garment look neat and pretty.
