It was a beautiful sunny day when I collected my new issue of Designs in Machine Embroidery from the mailbox. I already had a peek at the digital issue but I think there's something especially enjoyable and relaxing about flipping through the pages of a favorite magazine, would you agree?
I got comfortable and sat outside for a little while, looking over the colorful teal and pink pajama set I had contributed to Volume 94. When I was called upon to design something for the special Be the Difference teal issue I struggled at first. I was stuck with a stitcher's block of sorts, trying to determine what color would compliment the gorgeous teal crepe back satin I selected for the embroidered pajamas. After a trip to the fabric store I decided on the pink. I think the resulting color combination would be attractive on most anyone. What do you think?
While enjoying the outdoors I looked at the surrounding scenery and noticed how well the colors in creation compliment one another. I decided to take a photo and after reviewing the snapshot I realized how a few simple, yet favorite things can add something special to an otherwise ordinary day. My photo featured three favorite elements - pretty pajamas, pachysandra, and vivid fuchsias. What puts pretty pajamas, pachysandra, and fuchsias on my list of favorite things?

Let's start with the lowly, common, and quite ordinary green ground cover. It surrounds large areas of our outdoor space and thrives in massive amounts in multiple spots in the yard. This ordinary, old-fashioned green ground cover keeps me from having to pull pesky weeds, leaving more time for sewing! So, naturally it earns a place on my list of favorite things.
Now for the fuchsias, they are just so beautiful and the color is nothing short of spectacular. It's the only plant I purchase every year, buying big baskets to hang on the porch. I select fuchsias for another reason and yet another favorite thing . . . Hummingbirds. They enjoy the flower as much as I do. I'm entranced by the little hummers and love watching them spin in the sky.
I'm convinced my "favorite things" photo from today will help me remember when winter comes and sitting outside is not so comfortable.
