Studio Time at KS Productions for It's Sew Easy TV Series 1800

Spoiler alert! Details on a drawing for a free DVD set at the end of this post!
Picture
Here I am . . . smiling because I'm sewing! and smiling because I just finished taping five new shows at the KS Productions studio last week. I can't spill the beans and tell you what's coming just yet, but I can give you some hints. Later this year you'll see a wide variety of items in these five shows, embroidery splashed on a garment that's traditionally hard to hoop, knit separates with a special technique for tops, something cozy with a really unique embellishment, a soft and silky baby gift with tricks for four perfect corners, and several super quick trims for fun in the sun fashion. When the videos are finally released I'll have lots of photos for you to see, along with detailed instructions for you to follow for each of the five It's Sew Easy TV projects.

Friday was taping day for me but I actually worked during the entire week as a "crew" member, helping to set up Brother machines for each of the guests. I got to meet some new friends and visit with familiar friends too.

In the photos above and below you see more smiling faces, Cheryl, Rebecca, Lindsey, and Sarah were additional guest instructors and Angela is well known as the anchor on It's Sew Easy.
Picture
From left, Lynne Browne (Coats & Clark), Sarah Gunn, Yours Truly, & Angela Wolf
Spending time in the green room where we prep for the show, we had great conversations about the wonderful world of sewing, and I do mean world! Lindsey Marsh came all the way from Australia to show viewers how to sew and fit some great feminine fashions. Every other guest had something exciting to show as well! Series 1800 will be something to look forward to with garments, crafts, accessories, and costumes, plus a myriad of tips and techniques to make your sewing easier and more fun than ever before.
Picture
When we wrapped up on Friday the dress forms were wrapped till next season too!
Picture
Then the kitchen was cleaned . . . a sure sign that all the guests had gone home. The studio went quiet until the next time KS Productions invites instructors into the "make it yourself" world where these shows are made for your enjoyment, entertainment, and learning pleasure.

Now, are you ready to enter a drawing to win a DVD set of series 1700, the current It's Sew Easy TV series? To be eligible to win all you need to do is leave a comment below, listing one or more tips, tricks, or techniques you've learned from watching the show on PBS, online at www.its seweasytv.com, or on YouTube.

Drawing will take place on Friday August 9th, 2019. Winner will be notified by email and receive their package of DVDs in the mail. I'll look forward to reading your comments and drawing a winner! Available for USA residents only.

I love watching It's Sew Easy! It's hard to pick favorite tips, but a few I especially love are the presser feet demos with you, Joanne; some of the facing techniques presented for neckline finishes, Angela gave me the courage to do more with neckline and arm banding...I even ventured out and hacked a pattern to use a cross over V neck band that I'd never done before and it worked perfectly! I also love embroidery and some of the embroidery tips, stabilizer tips and even the couching tips have been very helpful. Thanks for your work on and off the show!!

Setting my stitch width at 5.5 for the perfect quarter inch seam. I can't even tell you how much of a difference this has made for me. Not sure why I never would have thought of that on my own. Thanks.

7/21/2019 12:16:36

Hello Lois! The 5.5 setting makes quarter inch stitching so easy, doesn't it?!? One of the great benefits of our modern machines is the ability to move the needle position from left to right. I seem to move my needle around for virtually every project. Some of the Brother machines also give you the opportunity to shift the stitch as well. I think I see a blog post in the future to help illustrate that one. Thanks for taking the time to write!

Absolutely love the show! for personal organization, I have a bin or box for each project - I tend to cut several garments on one day - and then sew in short spurts unless I have the luxury of more time. Having everything (pattern, cut pieces including interfacing), zippers, buttons, and other notions in one place helps immensely. I'll often follow this up with one session of attaching interfacings so I'm ready to go...makes the zen of sewing time much easier

My tip is to always wash or dry clean (depending on fabric) prior to sewing garments to shrink and get any chemicals washed away. Thanks for all your instructions which are so helpful. I record It's Sew Easy and after work I crash on my sofa and watch them over and over!

I love learning new serger and coverstitch techniques. I especially like the tip of chaining off a length of serged stitches longer than a tube/spaghetti strap being sewn, then enclosing that chain, and using it to turn the tube. I also appreciate learning about the tailor's clapper, because it is not only a time-saver, but produces such professional results. I really love learning about new products, and I wish that more name brands were used. The help with my Scan n Cut DX-225 is especially appreciated.

Thanks for your comments Aprille! I learned the serger style spaghetti strap technique many years ago and I've used it several times. I understand your desire to learn more about the brand name products. With PBS programming we keep everything generic. Be sure to check the instructional downloads on the itsseweasytv.com website. Downloadable material for various shows feature many of the brand name products used in the show. Happy sewing!

I like that someone else finally figured out that it’s easier to overlap less on one side of flat felted seam. My Mom always used this method of sewing side seams on Western shirts. She made all of our clothes except socks, undies & jeans. I’m in my 60s now so this was in the early 1960s & 70s. I love embroidery so I always watch those episodes but I love to sew garments when I can make time. Love all the episodes & the variety of techniques.

Hi Joyce! Thanks for writing and sharing your thoughts. You are so right about machine accessories being different today. However, some of those oldies but goodies haven't changed much.
